Crushed and Cured
Mas La Mola, `Vi d'Altura` Priorat, Spain, 2021
This Priorat is deep ruby in colour with a youthful purple hue, and layered aromas of black cherries, blueberries, spicy oak and a brooding smokiness. The palate is full bodied and powerful, with ripe tannins, bright acidity and a long, fruit-driven finish.
Mas La Mola Priorat is a wine blended from grapes grown in a number of different vineyard parcels on the estate, situated in the Poboleda district. The various parcels are planted between 350-800 metres above sea level, on Llicorella slate slopes. The low-yielding Garnacha vines are aged between 35-70 years old.
The grapes were harvested by hand with rigorous selection both in the vineyard and at the winery. After being old basket pressed, fermentation was started with natural yeasts. Malolactic fermentation occurred in barrel and the wine was then aged in four-year-old oak barrels for 12 months. The wine was unfiltered before bottling.
