Not a light and delicate Dolcetto but a well-constructed wine with generous cherry and plum fruit, plus note of spice and lead pencil.

Dolcetto, of Piedmont origin, means "little sweet" but the grape is usually vinified dry. It can be crafted to make diverse styles, from a light, fruity wine for serving chilled to a concentrated, oaked wine for ageing. From a small plot of 35 year old vines just north-west of Serralunga this example is unoaked (all in stainless steel) but has plenty of concentration.

The Boasso family’s cellar, in the little hamlet of Gabutti, faces the little hilltop village of Serralunga across a deep valley. This is a tiny estate but the wines are jewels.
