Crushed & Cured

Sax, Fruhroter Veltliner, Niederosterreich, 2021

Pretty scents of white peach and red berries.  Subtle wild strawberry accents. Finishing totally dry and refreshing, this makes an appealing and original aperitif.

Frühroter Veltliner (also known, confusingly, as Malvasier in Austria and Germany), a cross between Roter Veltliner and Silvaner, is one of those pinky-coloured grapes (like Pinot Gris) vinified as a white wine – although here it’s given up to eight hours on the skins.
